Establish in 1987, the Jefferson Veterinary Hospital provides veterinary services to the Frederick, MD area, with the best possible care for your pets.
With years of experience and dedication in veterinary, our staff, led by Frederick County native veterinarian Dr. Brooks Ahalt, will guide you through your pet’s heath care, offering your loved one the best possible care for a long, happy life, and give you peace of mind. Our two veterinary hospitals, located just outside Frederick in Jefferson and Brunswick, offer easily accessible pet health care for the Frederick, Middletown, Braddock Heights, Myersville, Lovettsville, and the surrounding areas.
In addition to providing veterinary care for your pets, we now offer grooming services at our Grooming Spa located within our Brunswick facility. Full service grooming for all dog breeds is available. For appointments for veterinary services call 301-473-4111 or grooming, please call 301-834-8000.
Please be aware that as of Monday May 13th, 2013 Brunswick Grooming Spa will be increasing their “full grooming” package and bathing service prices by $5.
Though we have resisted rising our prices to this point, we now have found it necessary to help offset the continuously rising prices of supplies and shipping.
Prices for nail trims/grinding, ear cleaning, tooth brushing and most add on treatments have not changed. Please do not hesitate to call and speak with our groomers with any questions or concerns. 301.834.8000
During the month of May, if you purchase a 12 month supply of Sentinel and/or a 6 month supply of Parastar Plus will receive a 10% discount. This JVH special is in addition to manufacturer rebates already given on these products. Please ask our Doctors or Staff about this offer.
Recently Jefferson Veterinary Hospital was notified by a variety of companies that they were offering rebates and specials. We have compiled a list of all these rebates and made them available to our clients for viewing. Please call us for more information about these products and their associated offers. 301-473-4111
You may have trouble getting through to the Jefferson Office for a short period this afternoon. We’ve been experiencing phone troubles since yesterday and a technician will be in the office addressing them. We will try to keep the phone interruptions to a minimum but if you have trouble getting through please keep trying. We thank you for your patience.
Road Construction update:
Corey let us know a short bit ago that part of the sidewalk in front of our Brunswick location is torn up and impassable. So please! be very careful if you are going into the office down there this week. I’m told right now there are saw horses marking the hole in the sidewalk.
The impassable side is from the West, between Maple Ave and our front door. However the sidewalk in front of the shops on the east side, from the parking lot and First Ave are open for business.
Sentinel is back!!
Sentinel prescription heartworm prevention for dogs is now available in both our Jefferson and Brunswick offices. Sentinel is a 2 in 1 medication that helps prevent heartworm, controls fleas, as well as controlling round, hook, and whipworm infections.
Please stay tuned for more information.
Questions? Concerns? Don’t hesitate to call our office for your answers. 301-473-4111

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we carry on through this road work.
We sometimes doubted we ever would get there, but it’s that time of year again!
The heat is on and that means it’s time to use caution when leaving our pets in the car when they travel with us. A bright sunny day isn’t even required for the dangers of heatstroke to present a risk, neither is 75 degree weather. Even on a 60 degree day temperatures inside a vehicle can reach 100 on a sunny day.
Here’s a handy chart to give you an idea how much of an oven a vehicle can become, even with the windows “cracked”:
Signs of heatstroke include:
Refusal to obey commands
Warm, dry skin
Should you suspect your pet is showing any of these signs of heatstroke, please do not hesitate to call us (301-473-4111) or seek emergency veterinary care.
For the past 2 years if someone were to call our Brunswick Grooming Spa, their call would magically be redirected to our Jefferson office where a very patient but sometimes overwhelmed receptionist would schedule appointments and answer questions.
THIS MONTH ALL THAT CHANGED!
Now our intrepid groomers will be able to answer their own calls during Brunswick Grooming Spa hours. However should all the dryers be running or the Groomers otherwise be prevented from acknowledging the ringing phone, the call be still be transferred to Jefferson Veterinary Hospital where our receptionists are still happy to help you.
So, should you need to schedule a bath for a puppy covered in spring mud, want an Easter pedicure for your pooch, or simply have a grooming question for Nicole or Corey the best number to reach them is 301-834-8000.
COMING APRIL 1ST, Monday hours! No Joke! Start scheduling now for your morning grooming visit with Corey.
(Veterinary appointments are still being schedule via the Jefferson office at 301-473-4111.)
August marks the start of laser therapy here at Jefferson Veterinary Hospital. The introduction of our new laser therapy program means that we have another effective tool in our toolbox for relieving pain and discomfort for our companion animals. Stay tuned for more information.
