We are looking for an associate veterinarian for a busy small animal practice, located in Jefferson MD. We are operating out of a brand new, 6,400 state of the art veterinary hospital, built with attention to detail, a spacious treatment area and two large surgical suites. Jefferson Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to add to our caring veterinary team. We are looking for an individual who has worked in the veterinary field for at least one year, and who loves working with small animals and their owners. You must be eager to learn all aspects of veterinary medical care and client education. This is a full-time position and includes benefits such as health care, paid vacation days and personal days.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with patient appointments.
Working knowledge of patient folder information and input.
Working knowledge of vaccine schedules, parasite and disease control protocol.
Assist with animal restraint, ear cleaning and nail trimming.
Working knowledge of preventative health care recommendations.
Assist with client education.
Relay appropriate information to/from clients and doctors.
Administer medications/treatments as directed.
Perform in-house lab tests.
Assist with client call backs.
Clean cages of hospitalized animals.
Label and stock hospital supplies.
Assist with housekeeping and laundry.
Clean public and employee areas.
Ability to perform radiographs, blood draws, IV catheterization and administer SQ fluids a plus.
Professional, cheerful and helpful attitude.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of Veterinary Assistant experience required.
• Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to multitask and demonstrate good follow-through.
• Demonstrate accurate math skills.
• Evening and Saturday schedule rotation required.
